"Car freighter" burns to the full extent – 22-strong crew rescued

Portuguese forces rescued the crew of a damaged freighter 170 kilometers from the Azores.

The Panama-flagged auto freighter Felicity Ace caught fire. However, the ship's position is still stable and there is initially no risk of fuel getting into the sea, the port authority on the Azores island of Faial reported.

The freighter was on its way from Emden to the USA with around 4,000 brand-new vehicles from the VW Group, including, according to media reports, over 1,000 Porsche and Bentley models. There were 22 crew members on board the 200 meter long ship. According to experts, the extinguishing work is made more difficult by the vehicle batteries on board.
