Due to the coronavirus pandemic, major exhibitors such as Google, Microsoft, Meta and Amazon have canceled their in-person attendance at the Consumer Electronics Show, CES, in Las Vegas. Nevertheless, 75,000 visitors are expected from Wednesday to Friday. Around 2200 companies from all over the world present the most important technology and digitization trends.
Steve Koenig of the Consumer Technology Association (CTA): "There's a lot of talk about Metaverse now. Just as we talked a lot about the internet in the early 90's. And if you think back to that time, we couldn't think of either vaguely envisioning what we're going to do online one day. That's how you have to envision it now with Metaverse."
The pandemic has pushed people to try new technologies. Fitness and health equipment sells particularly well.
Analyst Robin Murdoch: "Covid has reinforced various trends that already existed. For example digital fitness. Or how to work well in the home office, how to look good on Zoom, we didn't expect any of that. But we see it we're at CES this year."
Many sectors are suffering from the corona pandemic, but the technology companies do not have this problem. They keep making record profits.
