In the European market, e-health companies face obstacles as the market is fragmented. The European Health Data Space (EHDS) aims to improve this situation by promoting interoperability between the different health systems and harmonizing standards.
"Unfortunately, the European market is a fragmented market in the field of digital healthcare," explains Alexander Berler, Director of Strategic Business Development at IHE Catalyst AISBL. "It's a big problem. If we compare it to the North American or Asian markets, which are more organised, European companies face major challenges trying to move and operate on a European scale.

The Commission is trying to help Member States with the mobility of European patients across Europe: it started years ago to harmonize the way we collect health data and to structure it so that it can be shared between Member States can exchange.
New Business Opportunities
The European health data space creates new opportunities for European companies in this area. For one thing, they can sell new products across borders, which is currently not possible. They can also work with other companies to jointly develop new products that could create new services for EU citizens at EU level."
