The development of consumer prices has become an important topic in Germany, in the euro zone as well as in the USA and other large economies in the course of the economic recovery. Energy prices in particular are rising noticeably, material shortages and delivery bottlenecks are making many products more expensive.
On the one hand, this leads to debates about the interest rate policy of the central banks. This raises the question of whether the high inflation rates are a temporary phenomenon or whether higher inflation rates can be expected over a longer period of time. On the other hand, there are concerns about a possible wage-price spiral because the inflation rates are reflected in the wage demands of the trade unions. At the same time, the federal government, like other governments, is faced with the question of how to limit the negative consequences of sharply rising consumer prices for large sections of the population.
Against this background, the forecasts for the further development of prices are attracting increasing attention. An overview of the current forecasts of important institutions on inflation rates in Germany.
