Kazakhstan’s state-owned telecom company has cut off users from the internet since the clashes, and this is having a huge impact on the crypto market worldwide. Kazakhstan is one of the most important locations for bitcoin mining.
Computing power is essential for mining and no cryptocurrency can be mined without a stable internet. Compared to August last year, the hashrate has dropped 12 percent since the riots. The hash rate indicates the computing power of the Bitcoin network.
According to estimates by the University of Cambridge, Kazakhstan accounted for about 18 percent of Bitcoin mining of the oldest cryptocurrency. Only the USA is further ahead here.
It is believed that the authorities shut down the internet to prevent people from getting information about the unrest.
