"War criminals" and "particularly reprehensible" – outcry after bombing of Odessa

A day after the agreement on grain exports from Ukraine across the Black Sea, the port of the metropolis of Odessa became the target of air raids. According to Ukrainian military information, two Russian missiles were intercepted by the air defenses and two more hit the commercial port.

The Russian Defense Ministry announced last Sunday that it had destroyed a depot of Harpoon missiles in Odessa. The missiles were delivered by a NATO country.

The government in Kyiv said the shelling of Odessa raised doubts about the grain agreement. Ukraine calls on the United Nations and Turkey to urge Russia to comply with the agreement. If it is not implemented, Russia will bear the responsibility for the global food crisis.

Ukrainian government spokesman Oleksii Reznikov wrote on Twitter that "war criminals" had attacked the port of Odessa. According to media reports, according to the Istanbul Agreement, the details of which are not yet known, there is a ban on attacks on the three Ukrainian port cities involved, including Odessa. According to Turkey, Russia has denied responsibility for the shelling. Moscow has nothing to do with the attack and wants to launch an investigation, said Turkish Foreign Minister Hulusi Akar.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and the EU condemned the bombing. EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said on Twitter that attacking an important grain export destination one day after the Istanbul Agreement was signed was particularly reprehensible. This shows once again that Russia is completely disregarding international law and obligations.

Ukrainian authorities reported more than a dozen more bombings and explosions in central Ukraine and in the east and south of the country this Saturday. A total of 13 rockets were fired, among other things, at the Kanatowo military airport and a facility belonging to the railway company.

The attacks also came from warships and claimed several lives.

The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense reported this Saturday that 39,240 Russian military personnel have died on Ukrainian territory so far. The balance was drawn on the 150th day of the Russian war of aggression.
