Lukoil top manager dies falling from a window

The CEO of the Russian group Lukoil, Ravil Maganov, has died on the premises of a hospital in Moscow. As the Interfax news agency reports, he died when he fell out of a window. Lukoil explained the manager died of a serious illness.

Nevertheless, the police have initiated investigations. Media reports that the most likely cause is suicide. It is said that Maganow was diagnosed with heart problems and depression in the hospital.

Maganow since 2020 Lukoil boss

The 67-year-old Maganov has worked for the second largest Russian oil company since 1993 and became CEO in 2020. He was a close associate of Vagit Alekperov, one of the founders of Lukoil. Alekperov resigned as President of Lukoil in April after Britain froze his assets and imposed a travel ban on him as part of sanctions against Russia over the Ukraine war. Maganov's brother Nail is the boss of the Russian oil producer Tatneft.

Other deaths among Russian managers

Maganov's death is not the first among Russia's top executives since Russia's war of aggression in Ukraine began. According to media reports, for example, Lukoil manager Alexander Subbotin allegedly died in May during an occult treatment for alcohol addiction.

Several other managers of Russian energy companies were also found dead. They too are said to have taken their own lives. In a video interview published on YouTube at the end of April, longtime deputy head of Gazprombank Igor Volobuyev doubted that the suicides were suicides. Volobuyev had fled to Ukraine and stated that he wanted to join the Ukrainian troops in the fight against Russia.
